Generally, keyword research, search engine friendly content and targeting is considered under SEO (Search Engine Optimization). But Rand Fishkin says that this is not only, what SEO comprise of! Rather he believes this type of SEO practice is quite different from the actual one. These are only few things, which contribute in the ranking factor in SERPs. Where good relevant content is necessary for ranking a site; crawl-friendliness is needed to improve rankings on SERP and to drive traffic; and lastly keyword research & targeting is also certainly required, but alongside all these table stakes, maintenance of site is also equally important. The ongoing practice comprises of keeping the track of ranking, search terms, pages that are driving traffic, identifying the competitors and valuable visits on the site. Many times SEO experts think that posting of enriched content is enough to gain ranking for website. Although it would definitely work in favor of the site but certainly remarkable content alone cannot do any wonders. The content needs to be useful, engaging and shareable. If these things aren’t there, one tends to lose all their SEO efforts. Another major reason behind loosing website is the links, which are used massively for ranking purpose. Subsequently, such link growth hinders the process of SEO. To this, Rand Fishkin says that Search Engine Optimization needs intense practice, so as to catch up with the pace of competition, which is rising high day by day. He explains that SEO is about gaining of potential links that eventually helps in ranking the pages on SERP either by direct input of search engines or by indirect input of people and technology. Hence, SEO in total can be acclaimed to be built on traits like behavioral analysis, optimizing conversions, social quotient, evaluation of user’s experience, intelligent branding, detailed output evaluation, effective publicity, and public relations.
